NINIGRET (Niantic, ca. 1600 — 1678), also known as Nenekunat, Ninicraft, Janemo and Ayanemo, was a sachem of the Narraganset Tribe. He lived in Wequapaug, Rhode Island, and found himself continually having to walk a tight wire of diplomacy, because of the al­ways—tenuous relationship between whites and Indians. He tried to remain neutral dur­ing the Pequot—Narragansett War in 1632, but
