Add a Small Browser Icon or Fav Icon to My Site?

On some site like www.membergate.com you will see a large blue 'M' in your bookmarks or browser.

This icon is called a 'Favicon' short for favorite icon.



Creating the favicon

To add a favicon to your site do the following.

1. Create a small 16x16px graphic or resize your logo.

2. Save the file as favicon.ico

Notice the .ico filetype

(You'll need a graphics editor which can save to this file type, one we have used before is 'irfanview' if you need us to convert the file for you please open a support ticket and attach the 16px x16px image)

3. In the control panel under 'Utilities' choose 'file upload'

4. The .ico image needs to be uploaded to three different directories on your site: root, public image storage area and members image storage area.

a. In the 'Select Upload Location' drop down menu choose 'Root'

b. Click 'Choose File' and select the .ico file from the local drive

c. Click 'Process File Upload'

5. Clear your browser cache to see the new icon by pressing CTRL + F5

NOTE: In Internet Explorer, you often have to bookmark a site in your browser before the favicon is visible.
