TUTORIAL: Email Account Management in MemberGate
Email accounts for your website can be created, accessed, and managed directly from the MemberGate Control Panel. This makes it easier to manage site email without having to leave MemberGate or work through a separate hosting control panel.
Step 1: Open Email Settings
From the right sidebar of the MemberGate Control Panel, go to Master Settings Email Settings.
The Email Accounts section displays the email accounts and aliases associated with your website.
Step 2: Manage Email Addresses
The Email Addresses tab contains the site's actual mailboxes. Each mailbox has its own email address, inbox, password, and login.
Existing email accounts are listed below the Email Accounts heading. Each account includes options to:
| Option | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Login | Opens webmail so you can access that email account directly. |
| Setup | Displays the email settings and customized connection information needed to add that account to an email program or device. |
Step 3: Add a New Mailbox
Click Add Mailbox to create a new email address for the site.
Enter the mailbox name, display name, password, and mailbox size. Additional options are available if the account should be given domain administrator access.
Click Create Mailbox when the settings are complete.
Step 4: Manage Email Aliases
Select the Aliases tab to view and manage email aliases.
An alias is an email address that forwards mail to another email address rather than having its own separate inbox. For example, [email protected] could forward messages to one or more existing email accounts.
Aliases are useful when you want to provide additional public email addresses without creating a separate mailbox and login for each one.
Step 5: Add a New Alias
Click Add Alias from the Aliases tab.
Enter the alias name and then enter the email address or addresses that should receive messages sent to the alias. Enter one destination email address per line.
If needed, select Only accept mail from inside this domain to restrict the alias to messages sent from within your domain.
Click Save Alias to create the alias.
Mailbox or Alias?
| Use a Mailbox When... | Use an Alias When... |
|---|---|
| The address needs its own inbox, password, and login. | The address only needs to forward messages to another account. |
| Someone needs to send and receive mail directly from that account. | You want an additional address without creating another mailbox. |
With email management available inside MemberGate, new mailboxes and aliases can be created and existing accounts can be accessed or configured from one convenient area of the Control Panel.
