Meet your instructor

An instructor page for course creators and online schools who want prospective students to trust the person teaching them. It opens with a split hero and portrait, tells the instructor's story, explains how they teach, adds a short welcome video and a few of their own paintings, backs it up with numbers and a student's words, and ends with a link to the courses. The sample introduces a watercolor teacher. Replace the story, photos and numbers with your own, add your welcome video in the editor, and link it from your course sales page.

Your instructor at Brushwork Academy

Hi, I'm Maya Linden

I paint every day, and I have spent the last twelve years helping beginners discover that watercolor is not as hard as it looks.

How I got here

My story

I bought my first set of watercolors at 22, in a college bookstore, and I hated them. Everything I painted turned to mud. It took me years of trial and error, and one very patient teacher in a community art center, to understand that watercolor is mostly about water.

After a decade as a graphic designer, I left my office job in 2014 to paint full time from a small studio in Asheville, North Carolina. I started teaching local classes on Saturday mornings, and when students kept asking for recordings, I started filming. That became Brushwork Academy.

Today I teach students in more than 40 countries, but every lesson is still made for one person: the beginner who has a brush in hand and is a little bit nervous.

My approach

How I teach

  • One idea at a time. Each lesson teaches a single skill, then puts it straight to use in a painting.

  • Filmed from above. You see exactly what my brush is doing, at real speed, with no clever editing.

  • Mistakes on camera. I leave them in, and show you how to fix them.

  • Small, finished paintings. You finish something in every module, because nothing builds confidence like a painting on the fridge.

Maya has a gift for making you feel capable. She never rushes, and she explains the why behind every step. I have taken a lot of online art classes, and hers are the ones I finished.
