Health and safety waiver

A waiver and safety policy for yoga studios, gyms, personal trainers and online class memberships. It explains, in plain English, what members confirm about their health, the risks of exercise they accept, the release of liability, how studio and online classes are kept safe, hands-on assists, minors, and emergency care, with a short summary at the top. Change the details to match your classes and your state, link it from your sign-up form, and have it checked by an adviser before members agree to it.

Health and safety waiver

Last updated November 6, 2026

Before you take part in classes at Northside Yoga & Fitness, in our Minneapolis studio or through Northside Online, we ask you to read and agree to this waiver. It explains the risks of exercise and what we each do to keep you safe.

The short version
  • Check with your doctor before starting if you have any health concerns.
  • Tell your instructor about injuries, pregnancy or conditions before every class.
  • Exercise carries some risk, and you take part at your own risk.
  • Listen to your body. Rest or stop whenever you need to.

1. Your health

By taking part, you confirm that you are in good enough health to exercise, or that a doctor has said you may. Please speak to your doctor before starting if any of these apply to you:

  • heart disease, high blood pressure, chest pain or fainting
  • diabetes, asthma or another condition that affects exercise
  • a recent injury, surgery or joint replacement
  • pregnancy or having given birth in the last six weeks
  • any medication that affects your heart rate, balance or breathing

Tell your instructor about any of these before class, and let us know if your health changes. What you tell us is kept private and used only to keep you safe.

2. Assumption of risk

Yoga, strength training, high-intensity intervals, indoor cycling, Pilates, barre and heated classes all involve physical effort. Risks include muscle strains, sprains, falls, dizziness, dehydration and, rarely, more serious injury or heart problems. Heated classes, held at about 90 degrees, carry a higher risk of overheating and dehydration.

You understand these risks and choose to take part voluntarily. You agree to work within your own limits, use modifications offered by your instructor, and stop if you feel pain, dizziness or shortness of breath.

3. Release of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, you release Northside Yoga & Fitness, its owners, instructors and staff from claims for injury, illness, loss or damage arising from your participation in classes, workshops, events or use of the studio and its equipment, except where caused by our gross negligence or willful misconduct.

We are not responsible for lost or stolen personal belongings. Please use the lockers provided and leave valuables at home.

4. Safety in the studio

What we do

  • All instructors hold current CPR and first aid certification.
  • Equipment is inspected weekly and cleaned between classes.
  • An automated external defibrillator (AED) is kept at the front desk.
  • Heated rooms are monitored and never exceed 95 degrees.

What we ask of you

  • Arrive on time so you don't miss the warm-up.
  • Drink water before, during and after class.
  • Use equipment only as shown, and ask if you're unsure.
  • Report any spills, damaged equipment or hazards right away.

5. Online and live-streamed classes

When you take a Northside Online class, you are responsible for your own space and equipment. Clear the area around you, use a non-slip surface, make sure you have good footing and enough room to move, and keep children and pets at a safe distance. Our instructors cannot see you in on-demand classes and may not be able to correct your form in live streams, so take extra care and choose classes at your level.

6. Hands-on assists

Instructors may offer gentle hands-on adjustments in yoga and Pilates classes. Assists are always optional. If you would prefer not to be touched, tell your instructor or place the consent card by your mat face down. You can change your mind at any time, even mid-class.

7. Participants under 18

Members aged 16 and 17 may join with a parent or guardian's signed consent. Family Yoga is for children aged 5 to 11, who must be accompanied by a participating adult who accepts this waiver on their behalf.

8. Emergencies

If you become unwell or are injured at the studio, our staff will give first aid and call 911 if needed. You agree that we may arrange emergency medical care for you, at your own expense, if you are unable to consent. Please keep your emergency contact up to date in your account.

9. Your agreement

You accept this waiver when you tick the box on our sign-up form, book a class, or attend the studio. It applies to every class, workshop and event you take part in for as long as you are a member or visitor, and to Northside Online. If you have questions before agreeing, email hello@example.com or ask at the front desk.

This waiver is a starting point, not legal advice. Waiver rules differ from state to state, so check it against how your studio works and ask an adviser to review it before members agree to it.
