Student stories

A student stories page for lesson sites, course creators and coaches who want prospects to see people like themselves succeeding. It leads with one story told properly, from where the student started to what they can do now, then adds three shorter stories with photos, a row of results in numbers and a wall of short quotes. Ask your own students for their stories and permission, keep each one specific about the starting point and the outcome, and link the final button to your sign-up page.

Student stories

Real people. Real songs. Real progress.

Nurses, retirees, parents and people who swore they had no musical bone in their body. Here's what happened when they finally learned guitar with Fretwork Guitar Academy.

Featured story

Gary started at 66. Fourteen months later he played his first open mic.

Gary Lindqvist spent 40 years as a civil engineer and a lifetime saying he would learn guitar "when I retire." When he finally did, he bought a guitar, opened a video and closed it again ten minutes later. "Everything assumed I already knew something. I didn't know what a fret was."

His daughter signed him up for a Fretwork Guitar Academy trial as a birthday gift. He started Level 1 the next morning, with coffee, at the kitchen table. "Twenty minutes, every day. The path told me exactly what to do, so I didn't have to think about it. I just had to show up."

The hardest part was the F chord. It took him seven weeks. "I brought it to the Thursday Q&A three times. The third time, Marcus spotted that my thumb was in the wrong place. Two days later it rang out."

Last spring, Gary played two songs at the open mic night at his local library, one of them Porch Light Blues. "My hands were shaking. My grandkids were in the front row. Best night I've had in years."

I wish I hadn't waited 40 years. But I'm glad I didn't wait 41.

The live Q&A changed everything. Getting feedback on my own playing every couple of weeks is worth the membership on its own.
