Class rules and vaccination policy
A class rules and vaccination policy for dog training schools, daycares, groomers and any business where dogs share a space. It covers the vaccines you require by age in a table, how to send records, what to bring, class etiquette for owners and dogs, when to stay home sick, safety and incident rules, and cancellations. The sample is written for a Raleigh dog training school. Change the vaccine table to match your own requirements and local rules, check it with your veterinary adviser, and link it from every booking page.
Class rules and vaccination policy
Our classes work because every dog in the room is healthy, safe and ready to learn. These rules apply to every group class, workshop and drop-in session at Good Dog Academy. Please read them before your first class.
Send us your dog's vaccination records at least 48 hours before class. Keep your dog on leash and out of other dogs' space unless a trainer says otherwise. Stay home if your dog is unwell.
1. Vaccinations we require
All vaccines must be given by a licensed veterinarian. We cannot accept titers in place of the vaccines below unless your vet confirms in writing that your dog cannot be vaccinated.
| Vaccine | Puppy classes (8 to 20 weeks) | Adult classes |
|---|---|---|
| Distemper, parvovirus and adenovirus (DHPP) | At least one dose, given 7 or more days before the first class, and the rest of the series on schedule | Current, with the full puppy series completed |
| Rabies | Required by 16 weeks of age, as North Carolina law requires | Current |
| Bordetella (kennel cough) | Recommended, at least 5 days before class | Required, given within the past 12 months |
| Canine influenza | Recommended | Recommended |
| Leptospirosis | Recommended for outdoor classes | Recommended for outdoor classes |
Puppies in our puppy classes have not finished their vaccines yet. To protect them, we disinfect floors before every puppy class and keep puppy classes separate from adult classes.
2. Sending your records
- Ask your vet for a printout or PDF showing your dog's name, each vaccine and the date it was given.
- Upload it to your account under My Dogs, or email it to hello@example.com with your dog's name in the subject line.
- Do it at least 48 hours before class. We check every record by hand. Dogs without approved records cannot join the class, and the class is not refunded.
We will email you two weeks before any vaccine on file expires.
3. What to bring
- A flat collar or harness and a 4- to 6-foot leash. No retractable leashes, please.
- A treat pouch and plenty of small, soft treats your dog loves. Bring more than you think you need.
- Your dog's favorite toy, for some classes.
- A mat or towel for your dog to settle on.
- Poop bags, and water for outdoor classes.
We do not allow prong, choke or shock collars in class. If you use one at home, our trainers are happy to help you transition to other equipment.
4. Class etiquette
For dogs
- On leash at all times unless a trainer says otherwise
- No greeting other dogs without permission from both owners
- Feed your dog lightly beforehand so they are keen to work
- A potty break outside before you come in
For people
- Arrive 5 to 10 minutes early and wait outside until called in
- Keep your phone on silent
- Children under 12 attend with an adult, and stay seated unless invited to train
- Kind words only, for every dog and every handler
Accidents happen, especially with puppies. Please tell a trainer and we will hand you cleaning supplies.
5. Health and sickness
Please stay home, and let us know, if in the past 72 hours your dog has had:
- coughing, sneezing or nasal discharge
- vomiting or diarrhea
- a fever, lethargy or loss of appetite
- fleas, ringworm or another contagious condition
Females in heat may not attend group classes. We will move you to a later class at no charge. If a trainer thinks a dog seems unwell during class, we may ask you to leave and will offer a make-up session.
6. Safety and incidents
Tell us when you book if your dog has ever bitten, has guarded food or toys, or is fearful of dogs or people. That is not a reason to turn you away; it helps us place you in the right class with enough space. Some dogs start with private training before joining a group.
You are responsible for your dog's behavior and any damage or injury they cause. Our trainers may ask you to take a break, move further from other dogs, or leave the class if a dog is too stressed to learn safely. Any bite or injury must be reported to a trainer straight away.
7. Cancellations and missed classes
- Cancel a full course up to 7 days before the first class for a full refund.
- Within 7 days, we will move you to a later start date once at no charge.
- Missed a single class? Join another running class that week, or catch up with the online lesson.
- If we cancel a class for weather or trainer illness, we will reschedule it and email you by 2pm on the day.
Questions about any of these rules? Call us at (555) 017-4410 or email hello@example.com.
This policy is a starting point, not legal or veterinary advice. Vaccine requirements and rabies laws vary by state and county. Review it with your veterinary adviser and your insurer, and make sure it matches how your classes really run.
