Disclaimer
A disclaimer page for a financial newsletter or research publisher, written so readers can actually understand it. It opens with a short summary, then explains that the content is general research rather than personal advice, that results are not guaranteed, how the editor discloses his own holdings, how the model portfolio's figures are calculated and the limits of liability. Read it closely, change anything that does not match how you work, and have it reviewed by a securities lawyer or compliance adviser before you publish.
Disclaimer
The Dividend Ledger publishes independent research about dividend-paying stocks. This page explains what our research is, what it is not, and the limits of what we can promise.
We write general research, not advice for you personally. Investing involves risk, including the loss of money you invest. Do your own homework, think about your own situation and, if in doubt, speak to a licensed financial adviser.
1. Not personal investment advice
Everything we publish, including newsletters, research reports, the model portfolio, emails, videos and answers to reader questions, is general information for educational purposes. It does not take into account your financial situation, goals, tax position or tolerance for risk.
The Dividend Ledger is a publisher. We are not a registered investment adviser or broker-dealer, and we do not manage money for anyone. Nothing we publish is an offer or a solicitation to buy or sell any security.
2. Risk and no guarantees
All investments carry risk. Share prices go down as well as up, and companies can cut or suspend their dividends without warning. You may get back less than you invest.
- Past performance, whether of a stock, a sector or our model portfolio, does not guarantee future results.
- Yields, prices and estimates are correct when written and will change.
- Any projections we make are opinions, not promises.
3. The editor's own holdings
Our editor, Rob Kessler, and our staff may own shares in companies we write about. To keep this fair to readers, we follow three rules:
- We disclose it. Every issue says whether the editor owns the stock being discussed.
- We wait. Staff do not buy or sell a stock we cover until three trading days after the recommendation has been published to all subscribers.
- We take no payment. We accept no advertising, sponsorship or payment of any kind from the companies we cover.
4. About the model portfolio
The model portfolio is a hypothetical portfolio used to show how our ideas fit together. It is not a real account, and its results are calculated, not earned.
| How we calculate it | What that means for you |
|---|---|
| Trades are recorded at the closing price on the day the issue is published. | You may buy or sell at a different price. |
| Dividends are counted as reinvested on their payment date. | Your own reinvestment may differ. |
| Results do not include taxes, commissions or fees. | Your real returns would usually be lower. |
5. Accuracy of information
We work hard to get our facts right and use sources we believe are reliable, including company filings and market data providers. We cannot guarantee that every figure is complete or current. When we find a mistake, we correct it in the next issue and note the correction on the original article.
6. Limits of liability
You are responsible for your own investment decisions. To the extent the law allows, The Dividend Ledger, its editor and its staff are not liable for any loss or damage arising from the use of our research. Nothing on this page limits any rights you have under the law that cannot be limited.
7. Questions
If you have a question about this disclaimer, email hello@example.com. We cannot answer questions about your personal investments.
This disclaimer is a starting point, not legal advice. Rules for financial publishers differ by state and country. Have it reviewed by a securities lawyer or compliance adviser before you publish.
