"The ONLY support we can offer for early versions is to help get them upgraded!"
This NOTCE is served on all earlier versions of MemberGate which are retired and no longer supported
Sites running earlier versions are required to upgrade ...because they need crucial updates to protect member data
Our constant re-investment has ensured Membergate keeps pace with the changes affecting subscription businesses.
Things like:
- Security
- Credit Card Processing
- Can-Spam
- Data Protection
- Password Management
- Browsers
- Multimedia
- Social Media
- Hardware
- Mobile
etc etc ...
As we code these updates, we have always looked to make sure each Version Upgrade was seamless and wherever possible allowed MemberGate sites to continue to trade successfully.
The majority of site owners would upgrade as soon as the new version was launched.
Some would skip a version, even though support for each version was only 12 months, then catch up with the next version.
And often the case was the newer version had the solution to a support issue, so the site owner would upgrade when they hit that issue.
One One Version is now supported: MemberGate Infinity
Recent developments in Payment Processing mean earlirer versions are no longer able to provide the security needed by the regulatory authorities.
Improved Password Hacking means the password management of the early versions is no longer 'fit-for-purpose' and so member records and data is not as secure as it should be. (all versions before 9).
Now, we have already coded solutions to meet these challenges and they are available in the latest version.
However, we cannot backwards integrate and so the only support we can offer for early versions is to upgrade to the latest version.
So as we move forward, we will develop, code, support and focus on one version only, which we call: MemberGate Infinity
Early Versions
Although sites may continue to work, severe security risks rest entirely with the licensee:
- They will not pass the new data handling tests applied by the credit card authorities -
PCIDSS - Versions earlier than 9 will be putting their member data at risk of interception with the out-of-date "SendPass Module" which uses 'plain-text passwords', now updated to Password Reset" where no credentials are sent via email
- The progressive push to "HTTPS Everywhere" will benefit security on the latest version but will cause issues for older versions
- Integrations with other programs, applications and platforms - updated in the latest version - cannot be updated in older versions due to backward compatibility issues
- Credit Card information must not be stored on the site and only Tokenized Payments ensure this
So, for those reasons site owners are required to update to the latest version.
They get the added advantage of the updated password management module and other security enhancements, new 'responsive' design options, card authority required 'token payment' modules, faster search, and full PayPal integration, Learning Management System, Themes and Landing Pages.
