To prevent nonmembers from seeing the site's member only content, only the active articles that are on the public portal page are shown in the article index.
MemberGate is setup to automatically index your articles into this department. You shouldn't assign any articles to the articles index department.
The article index will not show content pages which are not set to display on your portal pages.
